The BYD Shot Heard Around the World.
The Fall of Ford
Happy Friday!
Hope you’re doing great.
As recently as 2020, BYD was barely on the radar for global car sales. From not even hitting one million units sold to becoming the Plant Earth champion in five years is unheard of.
While the US was focused on pumping out finished F-150s primarily made in Mexico, China was focused on laying the groundwork to manufacture anything.
There is a clear distinction in the thought process. One truck vs the raw materials and labor force to build entire SKU lines for any industry.
This is how BYD, China’s premier electric vehicle maker, went from selling fewer than 1 million cars in 2021 to almost 5 million, beating the American legend Ford in five years.
The reviews say BYD’s are even nicer than Tesla’s at half the price. There is a reason Donald Trump won’t allow them to be sold here.
The main theme is, today it’s vehicles, but what is next? Chips, AI, robots?
